Here’s something I didn’t expect to see today:

The deal is worth $1.6 million per season, so it’s down from the $2.3 million he made over the past three seasons. Raffl was set to become an unrestricted free agent.

General Manager Chuck Fletcher, via press release:

We’re happy to have Michael for the next two years. Throughout his six seasons with the Flyers he has played a pivotal role in a variety of positions and situations. His versatility, experience and work ethic will be valuable assets to our team going forward.”

Yeah?

I’m not the local Flyers expert, but Raffl has.. <checks notes> 18 points this year, which is rather underwhelming. He’s 30 years old now and two-year extension carries him to age 32. I guess bringing him back as a bottom-six guy is better than, uh, whatever the alternative is? I dunno. I think Flyers fans are just looking to be excited about something, looking for some kind of move that doesn’t scream “status quo,” yet this feels like another “status quo” type of move to me.

Anthony and Russ will have better Raffl takes, coming soon to  a website near you.
