Adam Schefter was on 97.5 the Fanatic this morning, talking a number of NFL topics as he usually does.

The most relevant Eagles tidbit related to Nelson Agholor, and whether or not the Birds were shopping him around the league:

“No they’re gonna keep him. They like him. There’s no intent right now to trade Nelson Agholor. I know there’s been some speculation on that, but as it’s been explained to me, basically it’s a situation where they like him an awful lot and they plan to keep him.”

Seems like the right move. With Alshon Jeffery as your WR1, a possession type of receiver who can make contested catches, and DeSean Jackson now in the fold as a go route/fly burner, Agholor’s slot skills are the perfect complement to what the Eagles now have offensively. Throw in Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert and that’s a damn good receiving corps.

The question with Agholor was his salary. At $9.3 million, he’ll count for 4.8% of the Eagles’ 2019 cap number, which is 6th highest on the team behind Malcolm Jenkins and just ahead of Nigel Bradham.

Regarding his numbers, which were down just slightly this season, I wouldn’t put too much stock into that. Agholor was forced to adapt, first to the Mike Wallace injury by taking on more outside snaps, then second with the Golden Tate addition, which also affected his usage and targets. He caught two more passes for about 30 fewer yards and half as many touchdowns in 2018.

Offensively, the Eagles look good at every spot except for running back right now. Jason Peters’ health is always a concern at left tackle, and you need Brandon Brooks to recover from his injury at right guard, but assuming Agholor returns, there isn’t much work left to do on this side of the ball, which looks like this in a typical personnel grouping:

  • QB – Carson Wentz
  • left tackle – Jason Peters
  • left guard – Isaac Seumalo
  • center – Jason Kelce
  • right guard – Brandon Brooks
  • right tackle – Lane Johnson
  • tight end – Zach Ertz
  • WR1 – Alshon Jeffery
  • WR2 – DeSean Jaccson
  • slot WR – Nelson Agholor
  • running back – ????

Schefty also believes Mark Ingram will go to the Ravens while the Eagles will add a running back in the near future. Tevin Coleman perhaps? We’ll see.
