Is this a contract thing?

Jenkins has two more years on his deal at an average annual value of $8.7 million. That ranks 10th among NFL safeties, right behind Adrian Amos, Harrison Smith, and Devin McCourty. You could certainly make an argument that Jenkins is worth top five money, up in that 12-14 million dollar range.

If it’s something else, then I’m interested in knowing what that issue is. Jenkins has never missed offseason workouts, but skipped voluntary exercises earlier this month, as explained by Jeff McLane at the Inquirer:

Jenkins has been in Philadelphia, but he has chosen instead to work out at unspecified facilities and fields, sources close to the safety said. It’s unclear why he has opted to stay away. Jenkins and his representation have declined to be interviewed. The Eagles don’t comment on players for missing non-mandatory training. But his nonattendance does raise the question of whether Jenkins believes he has outperformed his contract and is looking for a restructuring. Even if that weren’t the case, it’s a topic worth exploring, especially after several comparable safeties signed unprecedented contracts this offseason.

Either way, it’s hard to dispute Jenkins’ value to the Eagles. Dude played every single snap last season while the secondary racked up injuries. He has appeared in every game in his five Philadelphia seasons. The Eagles also have some really iffy depth at strong safety behind him, so Jenkins has a ton of leverage here.
