For the first time ever, Jon Lester lost to the Phillies.

He had arguably his worst career start against the Phils. Entering the day, he was 8-0 with a 1.49 ERA in 10 career starts. In four innings of work, he gave up seven runs off seven hits with five strikeouts and a walk as the Phils ended up 9-7 to complete the series split with the Cubs.

The Phillies gave Lester trouble early with a Bryce Harper RBI single and a wild pitch resulting in two runs. A Rhys Hoskins sac fly set up a deep bomb from J.T. Realmuto in the third before Andrew McCutchen drove in a run on a fielder’s choice with Jean Segura delivering a two-run homer in the fourth. A good day for a slumping offense.

But the game got a little dicey in the seventh when Pat Neshek gave up a two-run homer to Kyle Schwarber followed by a solo shot by Anthony Rizzo. McCutchen’s RBI double in the eighth gave the Phils some added insurance with a 9-6 lead before the Cubs nearly came back to tie it and blow Hector Neris’ four-out save. Tyler Chatwood recorded an RBI double with one out, but Neris came back to strikeout Addison Russell and Victor Caratini to flyout deep to end the game.

Take the series split and run with it, because the Phils have another tough NL Central opponent on the road this weekend against the Brewers beginning tonight at 8:10 PM on NBC Sports Philadelphia. Jerad Eickhoff looks to bounce back against Chase Anderson. Jake Arrieta and Zach Eflin are scheduled for the other two games this weekend.

The Phils will have two decisions to make soon. Long-term, who will be their everyday center fielder, and short-term, who will start on Tuesday. Cole Irvin was optioned to the minors, but either Vince Velasquez or Nick Pivetta will start.

Also, former Phillie Cole Hamels still has Philly in his blood.

Meanwhile, LeBron James is putting on his tampering cap:

I don’t think LeBron’s in position to be too picky. From what I understand, he has already begun the recruiting process. I’ve heard he has had contact with Kawhi Leonard, I’ve heard he has had contact with Jimmy Butler, there is no tampering enforcement by players. And while Magic Johnson — the guy who got in trouble for tampering before — is no longer there, LeBron is tamperer in chief of the Lakers right now.
