It didn’t end the way the Phillies wanted.

The Cardinals took the final game of their three-game series with the Phils in a 5-3 win yesterday afternoon. The Phils could have won this game, but Cesar Hernandez, who was moved up to the fifth spot in the batting order, left seven men on base. He did record an RBI after beating a throw to first to stop a potential double play.

Bryce Harper continues to hit, going 3-for-4 with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth. Harper entered the Cardinals series batting .227, he’s now hitting .252. That’s good.

Jerad Eickhoff had an okay start, but all three runs he gave up came off home runs, including a two-run shot in the top of the seventh to Jedd Gyorko, before getting pulled. He gave up eight total hits and struck out four. He’s 0-2 with an 8.50 ERA in his last four starts and has allowed 10 homers in his last 18 innings.

The Phillies are on the road for the next week, first with a tall task against the Dodgers that begins tonight at 10:10 PM on NBC Sports Philadelphia. Jake Arrieta takes the mound against Kenta Maeda. Zach Eflin and Nick Pivetta are scheduled to pitch as well.
