Malcolm Jenkins is taking part in Eagles minicamp this week, but he does want a new contract, telling reporters Tuesday that he believes he’s “outplayed” the deal that currently makes him the NFL’s 9th highest paid safety. I agree with that and wrote about it Monday.

Today, Doug Pederson was asked if that demand might result in a change to Jenkins’ performance and the way he carries himself:

“I don’t think so. Malcolm’s a pro. Obviously this is not my area, with contracts, but I have no issues with Malcolm, from a standpoint of being a leader on this football team and being here. It shows by his being here this week. I don’t expect it to be a distraction for our football team.”

More from Zack Rosenblatt at NJ.Com, after the jump:

Ultimately, Jenkins could have skipped minicamp for three days and incurred a combined $80,000 fine, but ultimately a conversation with owner Jeffrey Lurie gave him enough confidence that, soon enough, the two sides should be able to get something done.

“We’ve talked,” Jenkins said. “I think that’s one of the reasons I feel comfortable even being here because my relationship with Jeff Lurie and understanding that I do feel valued and respected and that’s not always the case for players in this league. I understand what that means.”

Seems like this thing will be resolved without much of an issue.

Doug also mentioned that Nelson Agholor is dealing with a “lower body injury” and will return for training camp
