If home runs are your thing, you were in luck last night.

The Phillies and Diamondbacks combined for an MLB record 13 home runs in Monday night’s game. All but four of the game’s runs were off dingers. That’s cool.

What isn’t cool was that Jerad Eickhoff started the game giving up back-to-back-to-back homers in the top of the first. That ain’t a typo. And he gave up five total homers in three innings (which were all five hits he allowed), totaling up seven runs with two strikeouts as the Phillies eventually lost 13-8.

The focus in this game is probably Eickhoff. In his first four starts and five total appearances, he didn’t allow a home run. In his last six starts, he’s allowed 16 homers, with nearly a third of them coming last night. He allowed one dinger in his June 4 win over San Diego, but he’s allowed at least two homers in all the other starts, which were no decisions or losses. Something has to be up.

Eight runs is still impressive for the Phillies offense. Scott Kingery had two home runs, Rhys Hoskins, Jean Segura, and Jay Bruce also had long balls, while Hoskins finished the night with two RBIs. Every position player outside the pitcher got a hit last night, except for Cesar Hernandez. But they gave up 13 runs. So it doesn’t matter.

The two teams play again tonight at 7:05 PM on NBC Sports Philadelphia. Jake Arrieta takes the mound against Jon Duplantier. There probably won’t be 13 dingers tonight.

Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher says recently acquired center Kevin Hayes has been “open-minded” in early preliminary talks and hasn’t visited the city. I don’t know why, but I would not be shocked if Hayes didn’t sign here. But I hope he does.
