James Ennis signed with the Sixers (just became official this morning) and could have made more money from other teams. But he decided Philly had a better chance to win it all.

And he didn’t back down either, telling Keith Pompey “we are going to walk to the Finals in the East.”

As Kevin mentioned yesterday, this has the potential to bite the Sixers in the ass like the Vince Young “Dream Team” comment. Or it could be something like Jimmy Rollins saying the Phils are “the team to beat in the NL East” before winning the division five straight years. It’s a pretty bold statement nonetheless, and probably the Freezing Cold Takes guy already has it saved for when the Sixers get eliminated.

Good for Ennis for being brash; I’m fine with that. Sort of. I find it a little odd that guys that haven’t been on the team that long (at least Ennis has played some games with the Sixers) decide to say some stuff like this. Young said his “Dream Team” comment a day after he signed. They’re also backups or role players saying this stuff. Rollins was a guy that’s been around and a starter and Brett Brown with his “star hunting” comment can fit the same mold, only he’s the head coach. Both of those things came true.

So maybe leave the prediction talk to the top guys, like Joel Embiid. Or, like Kevin mentioned, word it differently next time. Because Ennis’ quote is gonna be bulletin board material for the Bucks, Celtics, and Nets.

Meanwhile, the Sixers’ final Summer League game is this afternoon at 4 PM against the Raptors on ESPNU.

Aaron Nola will pitch Saturday, while Sunday’s starter is to be determined, but it could be Jake Arrieta.
