Here’s your FanDuel Sportsbook PA betting update for Monday, August 26.

We’re almost ready for the first peak betting season at PA online sportsbooks. The Phillies and Pirates begin a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park tonight. The Pirates’ season has long been over, but the Phillies remain in the thick of the National League’s Wild Card race despite dropping two out of three games to the Marlins over the weekend.

In football, the NFL preseason will mercifully wrap up this weekend. The Eagles will travel up the New Jersey Turnpike to face the Jets  on Thursday night. That game probably won’t generate a ton of gambling interest, but we’re just a little more than a week away from the regular season opener. It can’t get here soon enough.

Thankfully, the college slate returns in full force, providing football bettors with plenty of action. Top-ranked Clemson hosts Georgia Tech as a big favorite on Thursday night. Speaking of a big favorite, Penn State opens Saturday afternoon at home against Idaho.

But the game of the week – and the one that we will look at today – is no doubt Saturday night’s clash between Oregon and Auburn at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Pirates-Phillies Odds

Here are the current odds for tonight’s Pirates-Phillies game at FanDuel Sportsbook. Odds are current as of 2 p.m. Monday afternoon:

      Spread     Money        Total
Pirates      +1.5 (-162)   +124   Over 9 (-122)
Phillies     -1.5 (+138)   -142   Under 9 (+100)

Pirates-Phillies Trends to Know

The Pirates are a bad team.

On the surface, that would seem to be good news for the Phillies, but after they dropped a series to the Marlins (again) this past weekend and lost two of three to the Padres at home two weekends ago, I mean, how good can you feel about backing them right now? Still, there are some reasons to like the Phillies tonight, or, at the very least, there are some reasons to not like the Pirates.

Pittsburgh enters dead-last in both OPS and slugging-percentage against left-handed pitching this season. They’re 29th in batting average, too, and their recent numbers aren’t much better. Pirates hitters are batting an MLB-worst .217 against lefties this month. That should be good news for Phillies starting pitcher Jason Vargas. The 36-year-old Vargas has a 3.91 ERA in four starts with the Phillies since joining the team last month.

Unsurprisingly, Pittsburgh’s lack of success against lefties has led to some pretty poor win-loss results. The Pirates are 12-22 when facing left-handed starters overall, 6-12 against them on the road and 10-19 as an underdog.

The Phillies are only 1-3 in Vargas’ four starts, but they are a profitable 34-20 ($+260) as a home favorite. They’ll face Pirates starter Joe Musgrove. August hasn’t been kind to him as he’s pitched to a 7.71 ERA in four starts this month.

Pirates-Phillies Odds Boost

You can grab Rhys Hoskins to homer and the Phillies to win tonight. Those odds were boosted from +410 to +460. Hoskins homered yesterday for the first time since August 3, so maybe he can go on a run. He’s hitless in three at-bats against Pirates starter Joe Musgrove.

Eagles-Jets Odds at FanDuel Sportsbook PA

    Spread     Money        Total
Eagles      +3 (+100)   +140   O 32.5 (+100)
Jets      -3 (-120)   -165   U 32.5 (-120)

Eagles-Jets Trends to Know

It has been a mixed bag for bettors backing Doug Pederson’s teams in the preseason. Overall, the Eagles are 8-7 both straight up and ATS under him in such games. More recently, the Eagles are only 2-5 both straight-up and ATS since the start of the 2018 preseason. Their lone win last preseason came against the Jets in a 10-9 instant classic. Also, please note the sarcasm.

Oregon-Auburn Odds at FanDuel Sportsbook

    Spread     Money        Total
Oregon     +3.5 (-110)  +140   O 55.5 (-115)
Auburn     -3.5  (-110)  -165   U 55.5 (-105)

Oregon-Auburn Trends to Know

Oregon has been an absolutely miserable play as an underdog since the start of the 2016 season with a 4-10-1 ATS record. Moreover, they are 2-9-1 ATS when an underdog of three or more points.

On the other hand, Auburn is 5-1 ATS since the start of the 2016 season when favored between three and six points and 6-2 ATS when favored by six points or less.
