Here’s your FanDuel Sportsbook PA betting update for Tuesday, August 27.

We inch yet another day closer to the first full weekend of college football action at PA online sportsbooks, but before we get there, the Phillies and Pirates continue their three-game series at Citizens Bank Park tonight.

Is tonight the night? You know, the night the Phillies finally reach seven games over .500.

It’s been awhile.

The Phillies haven’t been seven games over .500 since June 16 when they were pummeled on Father’s Day down in Atlanta. Since June 19, the Phillies have had exactly nine opportunities to climb back to seven games over .500 and have lost all nine games.

All of them. What a weird and almost seemingly impossible stat. They’ll take another crack at it tonight with Drew Smyly on the mound opposite Pittsburgh’s Steven Brault.

In football, the Eagles’ preseason slate wraps up on Thursday night when they travel up the New Jersey Turnpike to face the Jets.

I know I’m excited.

That game probably won’t generate a ton of gambling interest, but we’re just a little more than a week away from the regular season opener. It can’t get here soon enough.

Thankfully, we’re another day closer to the college slate returning in full force. The action starts on Thursday night when top-ranked Clemson hosts Georgia Tech as a big favorite. Speaking of a big favorite, Penn State opens its season Saturday afternoon at home against Idaho. We’ll take a quick look at that game today in our betting roundup.

Pirates-Phillies Odds

Here are the current odds for tonight’s Pirates-Phillies game at FanDuel Sportsbook. Odds are current as of 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon:

      Spread     Money        Total
Pirates      +1.5 (-172)   +126   Over 10 (-102)
Phillies     -1.5 (+144)   -144   Under 9 (-120)

Pirates-Phillies Trends to Know

The Pirates struggles against left-handed pitching continued last night in their 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Phillies.

Pittsburgh enters dead-last in both OPS (.635) and slugging-percentage (.333) against left-handed pitching this season. They’re 27th in batting average, too, and their recent numbers are somehow worse. Pirates hitters are 29th in batting average (.227) against lefties this month.

That should be good news for starter Drew Smyly, who’s looking to get back on track after a recent rough stretch. After pitching to a 0.69 ERA in his first two starts with the Phillies, Smyly has struggled, posting a 7.45 ERA in four starts this month.

Unsurprisingly, Pittsburgh’s lack of success against lefties has led to some pretty poor win-loss results. The Pirates are 12-23 when facing left-handed starters overall, 6-13 against them on the road and 10-20 as an underdog.

Meanwhile, the Phillies are 5-1 (+$456) in Smyly’s six starts, which includes the six innings of one-run baseball he tossed in a Phillies’ win over the Pirates back on July 21.

One last thing: Philadelphia is also 35-20 (+$329) as a home favorite and 11-4 (+$384) when favored between -130 and -150 on the moneyline at home.

Eagles-Jets Odds at FanDuel Sportsbook PA

    Spread     Money        Total
Eagles      +3 (-110)   +145   O 34.5 (-120)
Jets      -3 (-110)   -170   U 34.5 (+100)

Eagles-Jets Trends to Know

It has been a mixed bag for bettors backing Doug Pederson’s teams in the preseason. Overall, the Eagles are 8-7 both straight up and ATS under him in such games. More recently, the Eagles are only 2-5 both straight-up and ATS since the start of the 2018 preseason. Their lone win last preseason came against the Jets in a 10-9 instant classic. Also, please note the sarcasm.

As for the Jets, they are 2-5 ATS overall and 1-4 ATS when favored in preseason games dating back to last year.

Penn State Odds at FanDuel Sportsbook

This game is temporarily down at FanDuel as of this writing, but the Nittany Lions are a 40-point favorite at most sportsbooks, so be on the lookout.

Here’s something to know: Penn State hasn’t been favored by 40 points in a game dating back to at least the 2005 season. When they are favored by at least 35 points, they are 4-3 ATS. The most recent example we can look at came back on September 16, 2017 when they blanked Georgia State at Beaver Stadium, 56-0, as a 37.5-point favorite.

One other thing: James Franklin’s teams are 8-5-1 ATS when favored at home in August and September.

Oregon-Auburn Odds at FanDuel Sportsbook

    Spread     Money        Total
Oregon     +3.5 (-110)  +140   O 55.5 (-110)
Auburn     -3.5  (-110)  -165   U 55.5 (-110)

Oregon-Auburn Trends to Know

Oregon has been an absolutely miserable play as an underdog since the start of the 2016 season with a 4-10-1 ATS record. Moreover, they are 2-9-1 ATS when an underdog of three or more points.

On the other hand, Auburn is 5-1 ATS since the start of the 2016 season when favored between three and six points and 6-2 ATS when favored by six points or less.
