FanDuel Sportsbook PA Betting Update August 30: Phillies-Mets Odds, Penn State Betting Preview, More College Football
Guys, I can feel it. Tonight is the night.
Yes, that’s right. Tonight is the night that the Phillies finally reach seven games over .500 after failing in their previous 10 attempts to get there, and if I were you, I’d drop by FanDuel Sportsbook PA to cash in on the law of averages finally coming into effect.
The Phillies welcome the Mets in a crucial three-game series as the two teams try to hang with the surging Cubs and Nationals in the NL wild card race.
There’s also eight college football games on FanDuel’s board tonight, including No. 19 Wisconsin vs. South Florida.
Before we go any further here, you need to know about this excellent FanDuel +2019 odds college football promotion. Basically, place a $10 point spread bet on any college football game, and if you win, FanDuel will pay out $201.90.
Just be aware that the promo works for only one $10 max bet.
You can take advantage of this promo tonight or when the action really picks up tomorrow with a full board of college games, including Penn State’s opener at home against Idaho, and a Top 25 clash between Oregon and Auburn.
Let’s get into all of it in today’s rundown.
Mets-Phillies Odds
Here are the current odds for tonight’s Mets-Phillies game at FanDuel Sportsbook. Odds are current as of 11 a.m. Friday morning:
Spread | Money | Total | |
Mets | +1.5 (-158) | +130 | Over 9 (-106) |
Phillies | -1.5 (+134) | -150 | Under 9 (-116) |
Mets-Phillies Trends to Know
Remember that 15-1 run the Mets went on to get back into the playoff hunt? Feels like forever ago.
New York comes to Citizens Bank Park where they swept in a four-game series back in late June riding a six-game losing streak. Not only are the Phillies getting the Mets while they’re playing bad baseball, they’ll also miss starters Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard. While I feel pretty good about the Phillies’ chances to win two out of three in this series, I’m also keenly aware of the fact that this team has failed to capitalize on advantageous situations on numerous occasions this season, so anything is possible.
I guess we have to start with this seven games over .500 thing.
It’s a completely arbitrary trend, but the Phillies are 0-10 in their last 10 games played at six games over .500, including a loss with Aaron Nola on the mound as a -190 moneyline favorite in Miami last Sunday. Nola gets another crack at it tonight against a Mets team that he’s had success against this season.
He’s 1-0 in three starts with a 3.06 ERA while limiting Mets hitters to a .167 batting average. He’ll be opposed by Mets starter Zack Wheeler who is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA over his last three starts.
Wheeler is 1-2 with a 3.60 ERA against the Phillies this season in three starts.
Some quick notes about this one:
- The Phillies are 37-23 (+$336) as a home favorite this season.
- The Phillies are 12-3 when favored between -135 and -155 at home on the moneyline.
- The Phillies are 18-4 as a home favorite this season when facing a starter with an ERA of 4.50 or higher. More specifically, they are 6-1 as a home favorite when facing a starter with an ERA between 4.50 and 5.00 and 4-0 as a home favorite when facing a starter with an ERA between 4.30 and 4.70.
- Zack Wheeler, of course, has a 4.52 ERA.
Penn State Odds at FanDuel Sportsbook
Now, let’s briefly take a look at Penn State’s season-opener against the Idaho Vandals.
Spread | Money | Total | |
Idaho | +39.5 (-110) | OFF | 58.5 |
Penn State | -39.5 (-110) | OFF | 58.5 |
The 58.5 total in this game is meaningful because teams favored by 39-41 points when the total closes anywhere from 57-60 points are 16-6 ATS dating back to ’05.
One other thing: James Franklin’s Penn State teams are 2-1 ATS when favored by at least 30 points.
Oregon-Auburn Odds at FanDuel Sportsbook
Spread | Money | Total | |
Oregon | +3.5 (-110) | +140 | O 55.5 (-110) |
Auburn | -3.5 (-110) | -165 | U 55.5 (-110) |
Oregon-Auburn Trends to Know
Of course, we have to quickly hit on the weekend’s lone Top 25 matchup.
Yes, Oregon has Heisman hopeful Justin Herbert at quarterback, but the Ducks have been an absolutely miserable play as a short underdog since the start of the 2016 season. They are only 2-9-1 ATS when an underdog of three points or more during that span.
Conversely, Auburn is 5-1 ATS since the start of the 2016 season when favored between three and six points and 6-2 ATS when favored by six points or less.
