This is it.

This is the most comprehensive summer video clip of Ben Simmons jumpers YET.

Grab your coffee, sit back, relax, and enjoy 10 jump shots from varying distances, plus a dunk:

Looks better, honestly. The left elbow is still flared out on some of those shots, but he’s showing consistent motions on every rep, which really is more important than the mechanics of the shot itself. I’ve pointed out I think 15 times by now that guys like Shawn Marion and Reggie Miller had quirky releases but were very solid shooters during their day, so as long as Ben is consistent in his motion, then that’s a foundation to build from.

Another thing I like, and I haven’t given this a ton of thought, but Ben is massive for a point guard, so if he keep working on that mid-range shot, right off the elbow, he can simply back down smaller guys and shoot right over them. Tobias Harris does a nice job of this sometimes when he’s in a mismatch, and Ben certainly has the tools to do it as well. I don’t think it’s realistic to think that Ben is gonnna come out firing catch and shoot three-pointers this year. It’s going to look like a nascent mid-range pull-up game and then evolve from there, if God wills it.

But yea, I know these videos are kind of corny, and it’s just Ben in a gym playing against guys who aren’t really defending him, but just to see the shots go up and go down is something worth getting at least a little bit excited about.
