The Phillies won a series against a bad team! As the great Borat would say, “Great success!”

A 12-run, 17-hit performance by the team’s offense helped them beat the Pirates 12-3 at home in the rubber match of their three-game series.

After Josh Bell’s home run in the fourth cut the Phils’ lead to 3-2, Corey Dickerson began the bottom of the fifth with a lead-off homer. The next five Phillies batters would get on base and score three runs in that span to increase their lead and chase starter Mitch Keller out of the game.

It was a bounce-back game for Rhys Hoskins as well, who batted cleanup instead of leading off. A night after his error at 1st cost the Phils a win and as he’s been in a month-long slump, Hoskins went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. He didn’t need a night off. Also, one night after Sean Rodriguez got booed by his comments on the fans, he got booed yet again.

Vince Velasquez went five innings and gave up two runs off that Bell home run off a total of five hits with five strikeouts. Austin Davis and Edgar Garcia pitched two innings each and also allowed a pair hits with a strikeout.

The Phillies are idle tonight but will start a weekend series at home on the Friday with the Mets coming to town.

In terms of the 53-man roster and perhaps having a new face show up at the last minute, the Birds reached out to the Texans in a possible trade for Jadeveon Clowney:

Although the Dolphins are regarded widely in NFL circles as a frontrunner to land Clowney with Miami general manager Chris Grier talking with him weeks ago in advance of his visit last weekend, should he agree to report and sign his $15.967 million tender, they’re not the only viable destination.

The Texans have worked the phones and have reached out to multiple teams about a potential trade for the former top overall pick from South Carolina, including two of his preferred teams: the Seattle Seahawks and Philadelphia Eagles, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly.

Other NFL teams the Texans are known to have spoken with, per sources, include Washington and the New York Jets.

Nothing has advanced with any of those teams, though.

Washington is regarded as a no-go at this time and they are unwilling to trade Pro Bowl left tackle Trent Williams.

But Adam Schefter thinks a trade to the Eagles would be challenging to do.
