Yowie Wowie! On the eve of training camp officially opening Friday in Voorhees, the Flyers have reportedly inked their #1 defenseman Ivan Provorov to a 6-year, $40.5m deal. Per TSN’s Bob McKenzie:

Assuming Provorov can rebound from an up-and-down 2018-19 season and return to his 2017-18 form, this deal will go down as an absolute steal. The Flyers have relied heavily on the young defenseman to the tune of just over 25 minutes per game. Is he a legit stud to lean on PP1? No. Does he do virtually everything else? Absolutely. With a new CBA negotiation on the horizon and a lucrative new TV deal likely, the NHL’s salary cap should rise. In that case, the cap percentage Provorov’s $6.75m will occupy should represent a major coup for the Flyers.

UPDATE: Per Pierre LeBrun, Provorov has some significant guaranteed money coming his way:

Most importantly, the Flyers will have their most important defenseman at the start of training camp. Now all eyes turn to forward Travis Konecny, who still remains unsigned.

We’ll have more news as it breaks.
