Zach Brown is no longer an Eagle. It was a brief tenure in Philadelphia.

Was he axed because of the pregame comments he made about Kirk Cousins? No, according to head coach Doug Pederson, who said this today:

As you guys know, we always do what we feel is in the best interest of the football team. I appreciate everything Zach did for us. I think Jim (Schwartz) alluded to the fact that we need a little more production out of that group. So we made the change.

Obviously we’re based on performance. I’m not gonna get into a lot of ‘whys,’ as to why we did it. We need more production there so we made the change.

Here’s what the defensive coordinator said about the Brown move on Tuesday afternoon:

Well that is probably more of a question for Doug and Howie. I will say this: We need more production from our linebacker position in general. We are also trending to get –  Kamu is coming off of his preseason so to speak. We are excited about getting him back in a role that he had done a good job in through the spring and summer until he got injured, so that will be good to get him back, had a little experience last year.

Not for nothing, but L.J. Fort played 45% of the Ravens’ snaps on Sunday, logging three tackles and a pass break-up in the 23-17 win. He was released after four games with the Eagles, who have a linebacker depth chart now looking like this:

  • Nigel Bradham (hurt his foot Sunday)
  • Kamu Grugier-Hill
  • Nate Gerry
  • T.J. Edwards
  • Duke Riley

Pederson said Edwards and Riley will “get an opportunity” moving forward. He also left open the idea of bringing Alex Singleton up from the practice squad.

Other notes:

  • Jason Peters is week to week
  • Bradham is day to day
  • DeSean Jackson is day to day
  • Tim Jernigan is “doing well” and is “close, no time table, but he’s close”
  • he thinks the cross-training of JJ Arcega-Whiteside is going well, but noted that he’s “behind” Alshon Jeffery right now
