Week 7 was another winning batch of picks, aided most by Manchester City beating Everton but not keeping a clean sheet (+150.) Foreshadowing: City appears in this week’s picks as well.

LIVERPOOL (-230) v. LEICESTER CITY (+600) — DRAW (+370)

This is the match of the weekend, with league-leading Liverpool hosting 2015-16 league champions Leicester City. The Foxes followed up that title with some solid-but-unspectacular campaigns, but they have rebounded nicely in recent days. Leicester City is currently third in the table, ahead of perennial powers like Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.

Liverpool’s midweek Champions League exertions saw the Reds storm out to a 3-0 lead against Red Bull Salzburg at Anfield, only to blow the lead and need a late winner from Mohamed Salah. Liverpool’s defense has been, for them, fairly suspect of late. Even before the Salzburg match, Liverpool had conceded in five of their seven league wins. Visiting Leicester hung five goals on hapless Newcastle United last week, and has scored in seven of their last eight matches in all competitions.

Add in the intrigue of Brendan Rodgers coming back to Anfield with a strong side and looking for a measure of revenge, and it is tempting, and I mean really tempting, to jump on Leicester City’s Double Chance at +150. But Liverpool hasn’t dropped points in the league yet, and their home record in all competitions this season is four matches played, four won.

Pick: So the conservative and probably winning play here is both teams to score at -142.

SOUTHAMPTON (+300) v. CHELSEA (-120) — DRAW (+290)

For American fans, the story of Chelsea’s season to date has been the effective disappearance of Christian Pulisic following his big-money transfer to the south of London from Borussia Dortmund. Here’s the thing, though: It’s not Frank Lampard’s job to find ways to fit Pulisic into his plans. It’s Pulisic’s job to force his way into Lampard’s.

Chelsea’s results this season have been uneven, as its seventh-place position in the table attests. Defense has been the biggest problem; the Blues have conceded 13 goals in seven league matches. It’s tough to win when you spot the other team two goals on average. Four of those goals were conceded at Manchester United on the league’s opening weekend, but they’re still a leaky side having conceded in six of their seven league appearances.

Southampton has dropped two consecutive matches and has been useless at home thus far, losing twice and drawing once. Perhaps of greater concern for Southampton is that Chelsea is ruthlessly dominating this fixture in the league in recent seasons. Chelsea beat Southampton in six straight league matches before drawing Saints at Stamford Bridge in December. If Southampton was a bit more potent, it would be tempting to choose their Double Chance at -110. They have only scored seven times in the league, though, and scoring one goal against Chelsea isn’t likely to be enough.

Pick: Take Chelsea to win at -120.

MANCHESTER CITY (-900) v. WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS (+2100) — DRAW (+900)

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City is a goal factory. Since the beginning of the league season, in all competitions, here are City’s goal tallies in each match: 5, 2, 3, 4, 2, 3, 8, 3, 3, 2. Not only do the Citizens score, they often do it in bunches. City is especially lethal at the Etihad, where they scored four times against Brighton and Hove Albion and eight times against Watford.

After a putrid start to the season, Wolves has enjoyed a brief rebound with two straight wins including a victory in Turkey over Besiktas in Europa League play on Thursday night. This is another short turnaround for a stretched Wolves squad, and City is basically the last team you want to face if you are tired or short on quality.

It’s notable, though, that Wolves has only been blanked in the league once this season, and that came in their league opener against Leicester City.

Pick: GIven the likelihood that City will win (significant) and that Wolves will score (probable), we will run back last week’s winning bet and take City to win and both teams to score at +155.

Good luck this weekend.
