Tonight’s the Flyers’ home opener and instead of talking about the team on the ice, we here at Crossing Broad are absolutely obsessed with the Wells Fargo Center’s newest fan experience. No, I’m not talking about the two new sports lounges with a sport betting twist, nor am I focusing in on the esports areas. Friends, we’ve reached peak Philly.

Remember all those annoying national TV references to the “jail” under Veterans Stadium? The Eagles did a pretty decent job of shedding the image of Roman Colosseum savagery, when they announced a sensory room for individuals with Autism and sensory challenges at the Linc, something that represents an excellent way for all fans to enjoy a game. The folks across the street at the Wells Fargo Center have picked up the hard-nosed, blue-collar image of the Philadelphia fan and doubled down as they’ve announced the first-ever rage room in a major professional sports arena, which they’ve dubbed “The Disassembly Room”.

You heart that? That’s the sound of Katie Nolan piecing together a longform takedown of the Philadelphia fan culture. Get ready for the onslaught of ESPN and FS1 talent taking shots at the Delaware Valley.

So what’s a rage room, you ask? Per the press release:

The rage room-style space allows fans and guests a stress-relieving outlet amid all of the game action. Through scheduled sessions that can be reserved in advance, participants wearing protective gear can smash, break, and unleash their rage upon everyday items like televisions and dishes using bats, sledgehammers, and more. Some of the items that can be disassembled might even bear the logo of an opposing team.

Now you have my attention. A no-rules opportunity to smash a TV with a hockey stick? That sounds legit. Some would argue that this announcement comes a year late, since so many fans who spent their hard-earned money on a woeful team a season ago would’ve formed a line that could’ve wrapped around the entire upper level. It sounds like the number of scheduled sessions for the room are limited, so if you’re interested, you’ll have to sign up here.
