Following the news yesterday that the New Jersey DGE will allow NJ sportsbooks to take action on the League of Legends esports final this Sunday, FanDuel Sportsbook has announced it will take action online in New Jersey.

FanDuel has listed G2 Esports and FunPlus Phoenix both at -110 in their head-to-head League of Legends Champions final.

You can bet on it on the FanDuel Sportsbook app, only in New Jersey.

FanDuel Sportsbook is offering -110 on both teams for each of the first two maps as well, meaning, yes, you can microbet on esports at FanDuel Sportsbook.

The max bet is $1,000 and there will be no in-play betting, per the DGE, however.

The big League of Legends World Championship final will see the winner take home 37.5% of the total prize pool, which should be worth over $2 million. The runner-up will take home about a third of that– 13.5% of the prize pool.

FanDuel taking action on esports is big news in and of itself.

Yesterday we detailed how New Jersey would be the first state outside of Nevada to take action on an esporting event.

Some physical sportsbooks such as Borgata, where Howard Eskin is said to have placed the first legal esports bet in New Jersey on Thursday, are also offering action.

FanDuel Sportsbook, however, is the biggest online betting operator in the United States in terms of handle, and their offering of action on esports endorses the trend. We’ve heard rival DraftKings Sportsbook also plans to offer action, but as of yet it is not listed in their app.

Esports are quickly gaining traction in the United States. And with a consumer base that is aging into their twenties (legal betting age), the opportunity to take action on these video game tournaments is potentially massive.

Regulators have thus far steered clear of this due to some concerns over betting irregularities and the data feeds not being as reliable as what we’re used to with major professional sports. But make no doubt, the opportunity is there.

FanDuel Sportsbook becomes the first online betting app in New Jersey to offer action on esports. You can head over to FanDuel and claim a $500 risk-free bet when you sign up right here when you bet on one of your two favorite teams in the League of Legends Final.
