Mike Piazza hails from the GREAT city of Phoenixville. Actually, he was born in Norristown, but grew up in Phoenixville, long before all of the cool bars and restaurants were added to Bridge Street.

Unfortunately, he played most of his career with the Dodgers and the Mets, but ‘that’s okay,’ as Joe Cordell once said. Piazza is a local dude and a heavy metal fan, so he’s good in my book.

Now he’s got a new gig, as revealed on Twitter:

Good for him. Piazza has not managed since wrapping up his 16-year MLB career, so this will be his first foray into coaching, at least that I’m aware of.

In truth, I know nothing about the Italian National Baseball Team, but they actually lost in the finals of the 2019 European Baseball Championship. A quick Googling reveals that they have some borderline big league guys and other players who had brief MLB stints, like Alex Maestri, Chris Colabello, and John Andreoli.

Forza Italia.
