Interesting week for Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins.

Monday, his team fell to 2-11 after an overtime loss to your Philadelphia Eagles.

Wednesday, he went on Twitter and replied to criticism from a fan by calling that person a “retard,” a post that still exists and has not been deleted:

Jenkins originally posted this later in the afternoon:

And then on Thursday, the next day, he was asked about his use of the “R word” and explained that it’s just slang:

“At the end of the day it’s just part of my culture, part of the slang that I use. I wasn’t calling nobody no name, wasn’t picking on nobody.. it’s just slang that I use.”

Here’s the full explanation from him, via Jordan Raanan:

So maybe it was an apology, maybe not, however you want to interpret it Either way, the Giants didn’t accept that:

With that, the end of their relationship has arrived, with the Giants opting to release Jenkins on Friday, the team announced. Giants head coach Pat Shurmur was definitive in the team’s decision to send Jenkins packing.

“Obviously, what happened this week, and the refusal to acknowledge the inappropriate and offensive language, was the determining factor,” Shurmur told media on Friday.

Jenkins seems not at all bothered by his release. He described it as such:

So there you have it. Player calls fan a “retard,” gets himself released, and believes it to be the best news ever. That’s the current state of the New York Giants.
