Might be jinxing the hell out of the Eagles with this post, but Eli Manning hasn’t beaten the Birds in three years.

Manning, who is starting in place of the injured Daniel Jones tonight, will play his 31st game against the Eagles, and he has historically not been very successful against Philly over the years, compiling a 10-20 record while throwing 52 touchdowns and 34 interceptions. He’s been sacked 60 times in those 30 games while completing only 59.6% of his passes.

You’d have to go back six games to find the last time Eli came out on top in this rivalry, which was Doug Pederson’s first year, a game where Carson Wentz threw a pair of interceptions in a 28-23 Eagle loss.

Since then, Manning has done this against Philadelphia:

  • November 25th, 2018: 36-37, 297 yards, 1 touchdown, 1 interception (25-22 loss)
  • October 11th, 2018: 24-43, 281 yards, 0 touchdowns, 1 interception (34-13 loss)
  • December 17th, 2017: 37-57, 434 yards, 3 touchdowns, 1 interception (34-29 loss)
  • September 24th, 2017: 35-47, 366 yards, 3 touchdowns, 2 interceptions (27-24 loss)
  • December 22nd, 2016: 38-63, 356 yards, 1 touchdown, 3 interceptions (24-19 loss)

Not huge margins there, only one true blowout and four close games. But add it all up and you get 170-247 for 1,734 yards with eight touchdowns and eight interceptions.

And then divide those totals into a per-game average and you arrive at 34-50 for 347 yards, 1.6 TDs and 1.6 interceptions.

Nothing to write home about, and tonight Eli will play without tight ends Evan Engram and Rhett Ellison, who have combined for 96 targets and 634 yards this year. Manning targeted those two guys 25 times in the pair of games he played before being benched for Jones back in September.

So it looks good on paper for the Birds. Eli hasn’t played a game in more than two months and hasn’t beat Philly in more than three years. If they find a way to lose this one then the Eagles need to call it a 2019 season as we pull brown paper bags over our heads.
