Shouldn’t come as a surprise here, but in addition to confirming the Andrew Knapp news on Monday evening, the Phillies also announced that they decided not to tender Maikel Franco and Cesar Hernandez, making both players free agents in 2020:

Franco played six seasons with the Phillies, posting his best statistical year in 2015, when he hit .280 with an .840 OPS over the course of 80 games. Those numbers dropped to .234 and .705 this year, respectively, and he spent some time back down in the minor leagues during the back-half of the campaign.

Hernandez was here for seven seasons and played his best baseball when the Phils were in the deepest part of their multi-year rebuild.

So the infield will look a lot different this year. Rhys Hoskins stays at first, Scott Kingery at third? Sign Didi Gregorius and play him at short stop? Jean Segura goes to second base?

Spitballing here. Perhaps Alec Bohm is in the mix. Either way, this ain’t your grandmother’s Phillies’ infield in 2020.
