Sniff sniff.

Somebody is sniffing around at NovaCare. I don’t know who it is, though. We’ve got a mystery source who contacts Crossing Broad and offers up tidbits about the Philadelphia Eagles, tidbits that have turned out to be 100% accurate.

I don’t know who this person is, or how to contact them, but occasionally we’ll get messages telling us that a player was released or signed, or that somebody ended up on another team. To date, the CB mystery source is four for four with their tips, correctly telling us about the Jordan Matthews signing and then release, the Mack Hollins departure, and Jalen Ramsey’s trade to Los Angeles.

Recently, the source contacted us again with this:

McCown as an offensive coordinator? Intriguing, but surely that’s not possible, is it?

Sure enough, Jeff McLane at the Inquirer reported this on Wednesday, saying that the Birds did indeed have interest in keeping McCown in the system, possibly as the OC.

McLane:

The Eagles discussed with quarterback Josh McCown the idea of returning to the team in a coaching role, possibly as offensive coordinator, during his exit interviews, NFL sources told The Inquirer.

While it’s unclear whether the team offered McCown a position, the 40-year-old veteran told the Eagles that he wasn’t ready to officially retire from his playing career, a source said.

Aside from meeting with coach Doug Pederson and general manager Howie Roseman, McCown also sat down with owner Jeffrey Lurie, according to a source. Lurie doesn’t typically meet with players immediately after the season ends.

Fascinating stuff.

We’re gonna have to try to track down this anonymous mystery source, because he/she is very good. We could quite possibly turn this into a long-lasting and fruitful relationship.

So, mystery source, if you’re reading this, I have some instructions for you:

  1. Go to the Dunkin Donuts on East Girard Avenue in Fishtown.
  2. Locate the trash can at the corner, which is shaped like a Fish.
  3. Reach inside and look for a brown bag, which contains $100 and a burner cell phone.
  4. Use the burner phone to dial the number written on the inside of the bag.

From there, we will discuss terms.
