The Seahawks lost to the Packers last night, ending their playoff run after two games.

Marshawn Lynch, who un-retired to help Seattle navigate their injury crisis at running back, spoke after the game about the importance of preparing for retirement, saying this to the gathered media:

Transcript:

Reporter: What’s going through your mind right now?

Lynch: Shoot, we lost.

Reporter: Coming back next year?

Lynch: I’m not sure. We’re gonna see what’s happening. Look, I’ll say it like this though, right? There’s a vulnerable time for a lot of these young dudes, you feel me? They gotta be taking care of their chicken right, you feel me? If they was me, or if I had an opportunity to let these little young sahabs know something, I’d say take care of your money, African, cause that shit don’t last forever.

Now I’ve been on the other side of retirement, and it’s good. You get over there and you can do what the fuck you want to. So I’ll tell all of y’all right now while you’re in it, take care of your bread, so when you’re done you can go ahead and take care of yourself. While you’re at it right now, take care of your bodies, take care of your chicken, you feel me dog? Take care of your mentals (?), because when you last that long, I had a couple of players that I played with that they’re no longer here no more. You feel me? Start taking care of your mentals, your bodies, and your chicken, for when you’re ready to walk away, you walk away and you be able to do what you want to do. But I appreciate it. Thank y’all, and have a good day.

I couldn’t have said it better myself. It’s an important message; you do need to start thinking ahead, because NFL careers are short. And even if you’re not an NFL player, get with a financial advisor and plan it out, since you’re probably not making Carson Wentz money.

“Sahab,” by the way, is Arabic I think for “friend” or “homie” or something along those lines. California slang.
