Our top overall rated online sportsbook, DraftKings Sportsbook, has launched in Colorado. In turn, it becomes the first operator to offer legal online sports betting in CO.

DraftKings will be part of what is sure to be a crowded field. There are over 40 physical casinos and more than a dozen skins for online gaming up for grabs in Colorado. This means all of its biggest competitors, including FOX Bet and FanDuel Sportsbook, will jockey also jockey for position in the state.

“We are thrilled to introduce Colorado’s passionate sports fans to DraftKings Sportsbook, the nation’s favorite mobile and online sports betting platform,” said Matt Kalish, co-founder and president, DraftKings North America. “Boasting a wide array of distinct sports categories and daily free-to-play games, customers across the state will always have a number of year-round, skin-in-the-game opportunities to engage with the premier sports betting experience DraftKings prides itself on.”

DraftKings Sportsbook Continues Expansion

It’s been a busy week for DraftKings. Not only did its sportsbook brand launch in Colorado today, the company brought its online casino gaming platform to Pennsylvania. Never shy to be first out of the gate, DraftKings was the first online betting app to launch following the repeal of PASPA in 2018.

DraftKings Sportsbook is now available in every single state that offers large scale online betting. Other states like Rhode Island and Oregon, while offering online sports betting, do not have a traditional sign-up process and are more protective of their local casinos. In turn, regulations exist requiring players to enter the casino and register in the physical space.

For the next 18 months, Illinois will do the same thing, effectively blocking DraftKings and rival FanDuel from the market. But in states that have opened their arms to what is surely the future of being able to bet anytime and anywhere, DraftKings has made a point of  ensuring its brands are readily available in such a market. By moving into Denver, DraftKings can be even more aggressive in with its westward expansion, which all starts in Colorado.

What to Expect From DraftKings Out West

Colorado charges operators an only 10% tax on their sports betting revenue. Compare that figure to a state like Pennsylvania where the number is 36% and DraftKings Sportsbook Colorado (as well as its competitors) will have much larger margins. This means the company will spend more to acquire players by way of not only marketing but also through new user sign up bonuses.

DraftKings Sportsbook Colorado can be more promotional to keep players engaged with their app. One of the things we’ve seen here in Philly are strong offers centered around local teams, particularly the Eagles and Sixers. You can expect that when football returns, DraftKings will offer heavy, perhaps almost no-brainer odds boosts for the Denver Broncos, the state’s most popular team.

Having recently gone public, and with a large customer base of more than four million people, DraftKings is well-positioned and well-capitalized to be the top dog in Colorado. Surely, rival FanDuel will have something to say about that.

FanDuel, which has been successful in the east, has more of a physical presence in states like New Jersey and a larger customer base thanks to partnerships with TVG and horse racing. However, things are a bit more open out west, allowing DraftKings to compete on the strength of its brand name and huge daily fantasy customer base.

DraftKings Sportsbook Colorado is now available to all players in the Centennial State, and while there are currently no major professional sports to bet on, have you tried your hand on a ping pong wager?
