A horse is a horse, of course, of course.

Looks like the Preakness Stakes is being moved back to October, according to a report that was later amended.

Info from the Paulick Report:

A report from NBC network affiliate WBAL in Baltimore, Md., on Wednesday afternoon said the Grade 1 Preakness Stakes would be held on Oct. 3, but the television station later updated its story to say a “potential” October date was being looked at to book the race on NBC.

The update came after a statement from The Stronach Group and the Maryland Jockey Club was posted on Twitter following the WBAL report: “The Stronach Group/Maryland Jockey Club is aware that a potential date for Preakness 145 has been announced,” the statement read. “At this point, there is no definitive date set and we continue to explore options. Once a date for Preakness 145 has been finalized, an official announcement will be made.”

The Kentucky Derby was scheduled for this past Saturday, but has now been pushed to September 5th, while there’s nothing official regarding the Belmont Stakes, which is typically run in June every year.

Keep in mind, you’ve got the Breeders’ Cup scheduled for November, so organizers will have to consider that when trying to figure this out. The Triple Crown could conceivably be run out of order this year, with the Belmont taking place before the Kentucky Derby, which would be pretty weird. We’ll have to see how the respective states (Kentucky, Maryland, and New York) are faring in the COVID department by the time these races hit the calendar.
