In a well-deserved development, Flyers center Sean Couturier has been named a finalist for the Selke Trophy, given to the NHL’s best defensive forward:

This marks Couturier’s second nomination for the award (2018), though in fairness he should’ve been a finalist in 2019 as well. Joining Coots as a finalist are St. Louis Blues center Ryan O’Reilly and Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins. While Couturier has as good of a shot as any of the three, it’s going to be tough to take down Bergeron. This marks Bergeron’s league-record ninth consecutive season in which he’s been named a finalist for the Selke. He won the award in 2012, 2014, 2015, and 2017.

Still, it’s hard to argue against Couturier, who for my money is the team’s best two-way player.

The winner will likely be announced at some point in September.
