Redskins Name Change Might Be Held Up By Department of Energy Employee Sitting on Trademarks

Don’t use that word very often, but it’s a good one.
In this story, we’re talking about a guy who apparently owns a ton of trademarks for possible Washington football team names, which looks to be holding up the process of the Redskins’ reband.
The 7 On Your Side team has discovered a name change for the Washington Redskins may be hung up by an Alexandria analyst who works for the Department of Energy.
We searched records at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to find that one Martin McCaulay, an actuary for the DOE, holds the trademarks for dozens of potential names for the soon to be re-named team, including the Redtails, the Red Wolves, and the Washington Americans.
McCaulay filed the Redtails name in 2014. The Wolves and Americans trademarks were filed in June and July.
Will Brinson of CBS Sports says McCauley owns the following trademarks:
- Red Wolves
- Tribe
- Redtails
- Monuments
- Veterans
- Renegades (Gridiron Football)
- Braves (Professional Football)
- Freedom Fighters
- War Hogs
- Radskins
- Red-Tailed Hawks
- Potomacs
Radskins? RADSKINS?
I love it. They should just pay McCauley his asking price for that name.
The funny thing here is that Daniel Snyder has another obstacle in his way, preventing him from doing something he doesn’t want to do in the first place. That’s pretty rich, when you think about it.
