Not sure if you saw it on SportsCenter this morning, but FC Dallas played a MLS home game last night with a little more than 2,000 fans present. The spectators were spaced out around the 20,000 seat Toyota Stadium and wearing masks.

Jerry Jones is looking to that Texas blueprint for his Cowboys, who open with a road game against the Rams before returning to Arlington on September 20th, for a game against the Falcons. He plans on having fans inside his cavernous arena, via Kevin Patra at NFL.com:

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Wednesday during a video conference that his team is gearing up for fans at AT&T Stadium during the 2020 season. Jones noted that he’s confident Cowboys fans can adhere to any rules for attending games.

“I am completely confident that if I’ve ever seen a general population have had information of where the issues are, where the vulnerabilities are, how to conduct yourself, the do-right rule relative to the person with you and beside you that you do or you don’t know, I’m confident that we have very educated situation and that our fans can come and have a safe experience at our stadium along with of course our players having the safety they’re required on the football,” he said.

Jones noted that because of the expansive nature of the stadium, which has a multitude of suites, and a great many places to put groups of 5-10 people, the ability to fit more fans at a safe distance is greater than some other stadiums.

The issue, as far as Eagles fans are concerned, is whether Dallas might have an advantage allowing fans in the arena when other local governments might not be keen on the idea.

Case in point, the recent hubbub involving the Birds and the City of Philadelphia, which had to come out and clarify that a moratorium placed on large public events did NOT include football games at Lincoln Financial Field or other sporting venues.

The Eagles open against the Washington Football Team, actually one month from today, and officials in the DMV have ruled that FedExField will NOT have fans. So far there has not been an update on the situation here, other than confirmation that discussions between Mayor Kenney’s office and the Birds are ongoing. The home opener is scheduled for 9/20 against the LA Rams.
