On Tuesday afternoon, the Sixers and Suns meet in a game with massive playoff implications, especially for Phoenix. Let’s get into our Sixers-Suns betting preview, including odds, boosts, and picks.

But before we do, FOX Bet has a 76 to 1 odds offer on any Sixers bet in August. Sign up in Pennsylvania here and in New Jersey here.

Preview

The Sixers remain a half game behind Indiana for the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference, which would ensure a first-round matchup against the Boston Celtics. The Sixers will be without their two biggest stars Ben Simmons -who’s likely done for the season- and Joel Embiid. Additionally, starting SG Josh Richardson is also out, while Al Horford and Tobias Harris are questionable.

Phoenix is a game behind the Memphis Grizzlies for eighth place in the Western Conference with two games to play. It’s worth noting that since Memphis was unable to put four full games between themselves and ninth-place, the Suns and Trail Blazers are effectively in a battle to procure the eighth or ninth seed for a two-game series. In that series, the eighth seed only needs to win one game to advance, so there’s still plenty of incentive for Phoenix to try to leapfrog both Memphis and Portland.

Sixers vs. Suns Odds

Here’s the line for the Sixers and Suns at DraftKings Sportsbook PA:

  • Spread: Sixers +10, Suns -10
  • Moneyline: Sixers +390 Suns -500
  • Total: 225.5

And here are the current best available odds for the Sixers (may not display on Google AMP pages):

Bets We Like With a Sixers Spread

FiveThirtyEight gives the Sixers an 66% chance of winning with a -4 point line. That stands in stark contrast to the implied win probability, based on the moneyline, of 20.4%.

This represents the largest disparity between FiveThirtyEight’s model and DraftKings Sportsbook’s implied win probability, likely due to so many key Sixers being ruled out or questionable at best.

Sixers +10 and Over 222.5 Total Points (+285, DraftKings)

To be clear, taking the Sixers to win doesn’t feel in any way advisable. The 10-point spread is a bit excessive, even with the Sixers missing a number of key players. If the Sixers are to keep the game close, it’s going to have to come by keeping this game close, likely in a shootout.

Bets We Like With a Suns Win

Suns Win and Over Total Points (+135, DraftKings)

The Suns are a double-digit favorite for a myriad of reasons, including their playoff lives hanging in the balance. Devin Booker’s evolution from a “Good Player, Bad Team” guy to a legitimate Top-10 guard in the league has been something to behold. The guy has always been a bonafide scorer, but he’s developing into a guy who elevates the game of his entire team. While the Sixers are without Embiid and possibly Al Horford, the Suns have upgraded Aron Baynes to questionable, which would be yet another weapon to utilize against an already depleted Sixers squad on the interior.

Devin Booker Over 28.5 Points (+100, DraftKings)

Devin Booker has be absolutely unconscious since arriving in the NBA bubble. He’s averaging nearly a point per minute, racking up 31.0 points in 32.5 minutes per game. In the only matchup this season between the teams, Booker dropped 40 points on the Sixers, including a going 15-19 from the field, while hitting three of four attempts from beyond the arc. For what it’s worth, Booker averaged 37 points per game against the Sixers in the 2018-19 season. Without Ben Simmons and Josh Richardson hounding him along the arc, nor Joel Embiid protecting the rim, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Booker go for 40+.

Devin Booker to Score 40+ Points (+410, FOX Bet)

If you’re a big believer in the rationale above for taking Booker to score over 28.5 points and believe the absence of Richardson, Simmons, and Embiid could lead to an offensive outburst, you can head over to FOX Bet and get Booker to score 40+ points at +410 odds. Booker has posted at least 30 points in four of six games in Orlando, including three performances of exactly 35 points. Plus, in his last five games against the Sixers, Booker has put up 32+ points. Given the lack of legitimate defenders in his way, this could be an excellent way to get real value.

Sixers vs. Suns Prediction

Pick: Take Devin Booker to score over 28.5 points and consider taking him to score 40+ points. He should absolutely feast in this one. While I wouldn’t trust the Suns to cover the spread, I do expect them to win and the over to hit.

Take the Suns to win and OVER 222.5 points.
