The NCAA Files a Trademark for "Battle in the Bubble"
The college sports landscape is all over the place right now, with a lot of conferences pushing activities to 2021 entirely while others forge ahead with their fall seasons.
There was always a thought that the NCAA might try to replicate what professional leagues are doing with their isolated concepts, like the NHL hub cities or NBA/MLS bubbles, and the organization looks to be embarking on some due diligence when it comes to that.
From trademark attorney Josh Gerben:
The NCAA has filed a trademark for "BATTLE IN THE BUBBLE."
The filing, made on August 26th, indicates:
1. The NCAA intends to use a bubble for potentially multiple sports.
2. The NCAA intends to sell BATTLE IN THE BUBBLE branded clothing.#NCAA #bubble pic.twitter.com/9M1bobLBw5

“It doesn’t limit the application to any one sport” says Gerben, which is interesting, because the trademark makes it sound like something specifically geared towards March Madness.
Meantime, college football is underway. Banger last night between Central Arkansas and Austin Peay down at a neutral field in Montgomery, Alabama. Saturday we’ve got Stone Cold Stephen F. Austin University vs. UTEP and Monday it’s BYU and Navy, which is the pick of the weekend.
