Spread

Despite suffering a miserable blowout loss at home in Week 2, the Eagles are a solid 6.5-point favorite against the Bengals. Both teams come into this one at 0-2, but the Eagles currently hold one of the NFL’s worst point differentials (-28). Meanwhile, there is growing optimism in Cincinnati as rookie quarterback Joe Burrow looks worthy of his status as the top pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

The Eagles welcomed the return of several key players a week ago and cleaned up the pass protection issues that plagued them in their opening loss, but Carson Wentz struggled once again, and Philadelphia’s defense was gashed for 37 points and 449 yards. Its glaring inability to disrupt the quarterback was on full display in Sunday’s loss, and thus presents what would appear to be a favorable matchup for a young Cincinnati offense.

Most concerning for the Eagles, however, is the play of Wentz. His 27.9 QBR through two weeks ranks 32nd in the NFL. After being outplayed by 2016 NFL top pick Jared Goff last week, Wentz looks for a rebound against 2020 the No. 1 overall selection in Burrow.

Conversely, while expectations for the Bengals are relatively low, Burrow has impressed in the early going, completing 60.7% of his passes for 509 yards and three touchdowns to only one interception.

As for the Eagles vs. Bengals spread, the early reaction in Philadelphia has been one of surprise that oddsmakers have installed a team playing such poor football as such a significant favorite.

We will see if bettors feel the same way throughout the week, consequently moving the Eagles vs. Bengals odds.
