No fans at Lincoln Financial Field for Sunday’s home opener.

No fans outside the stadium, too, since the City of Philadelphia banned tailgating at the sports complex due to the COVID-19 situation.

In prior weeks, we weren’t sure how they were going to enforce this, since there are private lots and other public spaces where various activities take place (like FDR Park). Today we found out that officials are literally blocking off everything around the stadium, to make sure you can’t get down there.

Dave Malandra shared the city’s press release on Twitter:

They REALLY do not want you down there.

You know what’s going to happen though, right? Some wise guys will go as far as they can, set up shop at the barriers, and tailgate there anyway. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. That’s what they say.

There will be Eagles fans down there in some fashion, and I’m genuinely curious to see what kind of creative workarounds they come up with. And maybe Mike Scott stops by to say hello.

Go Birds!
