Raise your hand if you thought Washington would release their #1 running back nine days before the season opener.

….

Yeah, not a lot of hands raised.

But they decided to move on from Adrian Peterson:

At age 34, he ran the ball 211 times for 898 yards and five touchdowns, following a season in which he carried it 251 times for 1,042 yards and seven scores. He also added about 350 receiving yards in his two years with the team formerly known as the R*******.

With Derrius Guice also no longer in the picture, it means the Eagles will see Antonio Gibson, Bryce Love, and J.D. McKissic in the season opener. Gibson is the third round pick out of Memphis who isn’t even really a running back, but more of dynamic offensive player, if that makes any sense at all. Love was the Stanford Heisman finalist who didn’t play his first NFL year due to injury and McKissic comes over from Detroit, where he put up about 450 rushing and passing yards while functioning as their returner.

Eagles season opener in nine days.
