So this is intriguing.

On Monday, we had an anonymous tipster use our feedback form, and he or she claimed that Houston’s Daryl Morey was going to be the Sixers’ new general manager while Elton Brand moved to a different role.

It seemed like a troll job at the time, but there’s a guy who uses the feedback form to report Eagles and NFL news, and so far that guy has been around 90% with accurate information, reporting the release of Mack Hollins and the Jalen Ramsey trade, along with the Jordan Matthews transactions. I’ve been unable to track this person down and only have a vague idea of who they are.

You never know if these tips are legit or if we’re being bullshitted, but oddly enough, Daryl Morey just stepped down from his Rockets gig, according to Woj:

Very interesting! Woj says this in the story:

“In the aftermath of Houston’s elimination from the NBA’s restart in Orlando, Florida, Morey approached owner Tilman Fertitta with the idea of leaving the job, and the sides quietly worked through an exit agreement to conclude his 13 seasons running the franchise’s basketball operations, sources said.

Morey isn’t ruling out a future return to the NBA on the team side, but he has become increasingly determined to explore what else might interest him professionally, sources said. Morey also saw an opportunity to spend time with two college-age children who are each taking a gap year academically during the coronavirus pandemic.

Morey will remain in an advisory role for a short period to assist in the Rockets’ completion of their head-coaching search, sources said.”

This seems to suggest that the Sixers are not in the picture, doesn’t it? The Rockets went out in the second round and have hit a dead end, so Morey’s resignation would be justified considering that Houston is sort of treading water at this point. They seem to have reached their ceiling and you’d think a parting of ways would be inevitable, especially if there’s lingering resentment from preseason Hong Kong and China debacle.

We’ve been told throughout the summer that Elton Brand is the Sixers’ general manager and that his role is secure. He led the coaching search that resulted in Doc Rivers’ hire and informed us that the collaboration between himself, Brett Brown, Ned Cohen, and Alex Rucker was not working, which would suggest he’d be the de facto decision maker moving forward.

But you never know. It’s always worth considering every tip that comes in, and if those tips end up being bullcrap, then you don’t pursue that source.

UPDATE –

The source used the feedback form again:

Wowzers! Stay tuned…
