Cowboys quarterback Andy Dalton appears to be increasingly unlikely to play on Sunday night, according to a report this morning from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport:

While it still remains possible that Dalton makes late-week progress and suits up, it is increasingly likely that the Eagles will face a seventh-round rookie quarterback out of James Madison this week.

Conventional wisdom suggests this development is great news for an Eagles defense that is fourth in the NFL in terms of sacks per game, one that also happens to be going up against a decimated offense that has managed a combined 13 points over the last two weeks. Of course, this is 2020, and this is the NFC East we’re talking about, so we’ll see.

Eagles-Cowboys Odds Creeping In Philly’s Favor

Regardless, the growing pessimism surrounding Dalton’s availability, along with the reality that Dallas is arguably one of the worst teams in the sport, has the Eagles vs. Cowboys line  moving in Philadelphia’s favor.

After opening as a 7.5-point favorite earlier in the week at DraftKings Sportsbook, the line has now crept up to 8.5 points. Meanwhile, the Eagles have moved from a -350 moneyline favorite to -375 at DraftKings.

Despite also pricing the Eagles -8.5, FanDuel Sportsbook has them installed as a heavier -450 moneyline favorite. As of Thursday afternoon, only 15% of spread bets and 12% of the money is on the Cowboys at FanDuel Sportsbook.

It will interesting to see how Pennsylvania online sportsbooks handle the action as kickoff draws closer. The guess here is that the line isn’t done moving in the Eagles’ favor, as local fans will probably be ready to bet against what appears to be a Cowboys squad primed for yet another loss.

Eagles-Cowboys Total Holds Steady

With Dalton likely out and the Cowboys offense reeling, there has been enough action on the under to drive it down from 43.5 points earlier in the week to 43 as of midday Thursday.

This total, which is exceedingly low given the Cowboys sport the NFL’s worst scoring defense at nearly 35 points per game, presents the lowest on the board for Week 8. In fact, the Dallas defense has surrendered 38 points or more on four different occasions this season, so perhaps oddsmakers are trying to tell us something here.

Eagles Control NFC East Odds

It wasn’t so long ago, like as in last week, that the Eagles weren’t the favorite to capture the NFC East crown. However, following their Week 7 win over the Giants, along with Washington’s recent dismantling of the hapless Cowboys, the Eagles now possess the best odds to win what has been a historically inept division. The latest odds, per DraftKings:

  • Eagles -155
  • Cowboys +350
  • Washington +400
  • Giants +1300

Notably, Washington made a big jump this week, moving from +1300 to +400. If you’re looking for a dark horse futures market play, Football Team–yes, Football Team–is probably the move.

While oddsmakers are bullish on the Eagles to capture the NFC East title, they’re not quite as high on a Super Bowl run. Go figure.

At +5000 Super Bowl odds, the Eagles are tied with the Bears (what’s up, Nick Foles?) for the 15th-best odds to hoist the Lombardi Trophy.
