Jamon Brown.. wait, who is he again?

He’s the guard the Eagles went out and signed in mid-September off the Bears’ practice squad. A third-round Rams draft pick, he has 47 career NFL starts and played nine games for the Falcons last year.

Sunday, he’s going to start because Matt Pryor is not available via illness, according to Doug Pederson:

“In the case of Matt Pryor, just like some of our players here recently have fallen into a little bit of the illness issue, illness protocol with him, we’re taking all of the precautions and making sure he’s safe and healthy. So he’s going to miss this game and Jamon Brown is going to start there at right guard.”

Pederson noted that Brown has been with the team for some time now, and is a “smart guy” who understands the playbook and fits in well.

Brown did appear earlier this week on the injury report, also with an “illness” designation, so Doug clarified that later in the media availability:

“In Jamon’s case, it was more last week. And then early this week he had a little illness. Part of the protocol, and legally, I’m bound not to get into a lot of protocol with you guys, can’t announce things publicly, but we have to take everything into precaution, whether a guy has an upset stomach or headache, whatever it could be. It doesn’t have to be COVID-related but we have to take everything seriously. We have to protect the entire team and the organization. We’re making sure in this case everybody is healthy. We’re testing daily, which is part of the protocol. So far we’ve been clean and clear but we have to take precautions to make sure that if something does happen that we’re prepared and ready. We gotta stick to the guidelines and protocols in place. Guys have been doing a great job there.”

This will be the sixth different offensive line grouping the Eagles have put together this year.

Other Doug notes:

  • DeSean Jackson – “…he had a really good day yesterday. He’ll get out there today and practice…. there’s a possibility for him.”
  • Alshon Jeffery sounds like he’s still a no go for Sunday. He was taking scout team reps this week.
  • Lane Johnson is “working through his injury.” They have Jack Driscoll ready to go and it sounds like he’s going to start.
  • Darius Slay is out of concussion protocol and cleared for Sunday.
