Should the Eagles be buyers or sellers at the trade deadline?

They’ve got a little less than a week to make a move, and CBS NFL insider Jason La Canfora says they’re looking to BUY:

Pick Six is Will Brinson’s podcast. I went back and listened to the full audio, and here’s what La Canfora said:

“Dude the Eagles are buying. The Eagles want to trade Alshon Jeffery. They’ve been trying to get out of Alshon Jeffery’s contract for a calendar year. That thing is, they’re stuck with him. Would they like to dump a couple of salaries? Sure. Do they think anybody is going to give them anything for those guys? No. But they want linebackers, man. If they got an Avery Williamson from the Jets, or if they got a Zach Cunningham or something like that…

They think the offensive line is going to be healthy after the bye. They’re okay with their receivers. They like some of their young, developmental guys. They’ve got enough money sunk into that position in old guys. They expect Dallas Goedert back after the bye. They feel good there (offense), I think their concerns are on the other side of the ball and yeah, linebackers for sure.”

Williamson is 28 years old and coming off an ACL tear, but is playing pretty well this year. He’s on the last year of a deal that pays him $2.75 million in base salary, with a $2 million signing bonus, so he’s currently hitting the Jets’ cap at $4.75 million. They might move him for cheap instead of letting him walk for free.

Cunningham would be really expensive and just signed an extension with the Texans, so that move would seem to be off the table. Great player, though. He would easily be light years ahead of every other linebacker on the Eagles roster if the Birds found a way to bring him in.
