Holy crap! –

Our Crossing Broad mystery source was right. Daryl Morey is coming to Philadelphia:

Just to recap here, in case you don’t know what the hell I’m talking about –

About two weeks ago, we had an anonymous tipster use our feedback form, and this person claimed that Morey, still employed by Houston at the time, was going to be the Sixers’ new general manager. It seemed like we were being trolled, but we took the tip seriously because we have a guy who uses the same form to report Eagles news, and that person has been correct more often than not.

These are two different people, we think, though I haven’t been able to successfully contact either one of them. Is it Deepthroat? Somebody in The Kremlin? Tony Bobulinsky? There’s the Eagles source, and then the Sixers tipster, who used the form again to say this after Morey resigned from the Houston job:

Pretty cool. We’ll have to do some work in making contact with this tipster in order to generate a continuous flow of valid information. A new working relationship that benefits all parties.

But on a serious note, Morey is a great hire. Elton Brand stays in his role, but has a more experienced guy above him, a guy who challenged the Warriors while every other team was rebuilding or sitting on the sidelines for a half decade. We’ll just ignore the Russell Westbrook trade, however.

Moving forward, the Sixers front office now looks something like this:

  • Daryl Morey – President of Basketball Operations, or whatever the title is
  • Elton Brand – General Manager
  • Peter Dinwiddie (no relation to Spencer) – executive VP of Basketball Ops
  • Ned Cohen and Alex Rucker – same roles, only no collaboration

And then Doc Rivers as the head coach, much to the pleasure of the Brett Brown haters.

Really interesting stuff. We’ll dive more into Morey’s Rockets’ tenure in another post.
