“Teenage kid did something really stupid almost ten years ago.”

I hate these stories. They pop up every year, with somebody going through an athlete’s social media accounts and finding instances of sexist, racist, or homophobic language. The player typically apologizes, says that they were an idiot teenager back in the day, and then deletes the posts.

In this case, Eagles fans went back to 2011 and 2012 and found that Nate Gerry used the N word on multiple occasions. Here’s what my search turned up, with the bad words blurred:

These are all legitimate. Double checked the time and date and looked at his feed because we value good journalism at Crossing Broad. If anybody cares, or if it makes a difference, these all ended in a soft A and not a hard R.

None of us can go inside Nathan Gerry’s head to find out if he’s truly a RACIST, but more often than not it’s just a young kid doing something he’s not supposed to be doing, and not understanding the seriousness of what they did or said. For background, Gerry is a white dude from Sioux Falls who went to college in Nebraska, so it’s not like he was immersed in diversity back then.

The real question is posed by Investor Jeff, who wants to know why agents and teams just don’t have their players scrub their entire social media history when entering the NFL. It would prevent these stupid situations from happening and should probably be mandated at this point.

“You must delete all of your dumbass tweets,” should be written into any contract between player and agent.

Anyway, we’ll set the odds on Gerry being cut at +3300.
