Sixers roster moves. A LOT of roster moves. My inbox is bulging.

Some of these had been previously reported but officially the team has now added Lamine Diane, Derrick Walton Jr., Justin Anderson, Ryan Broekhoff, Dakota Mathias, and all three draft picks.

Notes on each guy:

Justin Anderson

Returns as a free agent. You remember him from his 2016 to 2018 stint with the Sixers, coming off the bench to play about 65 regular season and seven playoff games.

Anderson was sent to Atlanta in the three-team trade that saw Mike Muscala come to Philadelphia and Dennis Schroder and Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot move to Oklahoma City. In that lone season with the Hawks, Justin played 48 games and his field goal percentage drop to 40.8. In 2019, he signed a 10-day contract with Brooklyn, found his way onto their roster, and then came back to Philly this year as a free agent.

Ryan Broekhoff

Broekhoff was supposed to join the Sixers in the bubble but never made it because his wife tested positive for COVID-19 in what he described as a “high risk” situation due to her auto-immune disease. Broekhoff opted out for understandable health and safety reasons.

He’s a veteran shooter who played two seasons in Dallas, hitting 40.3% from beyond the arc and taking 144 of his 185 total field goals from three-point range. That’s 78%.

Said Broekhoff prior to opting out:

“I think the fit in should be pretty seamless. You’ve got Ben, you’ve got Embiid, and they command attention in and around the post area. The best way to mitigate that is surround them with shooting options and spread the floor. Hopefully I can be one of those guys who keeps my man occupied and let’s the big guys do what they do close to the rim. Ben in the post on-one-one is basically unstoppable, so the more chances we can get those one-on-ones, the better the team will be.”

Broekhoff turned 30 years old in August.

Lamine Diane

Signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Sixers. 6″7″ small forward/power forward.

Here’s the blurb from the press release:

“Diane excelled during the past two collegiate seasons with the CSUN (California State University, Northridge) men’s basketball program. In 19 games (all starts) as a redshirt sophomore last season, Diane averaged 25.6 points, 10.2 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 2.0 blocks in 35.9 minutes per game. In 33 games (all starts) as a redshirt freshman in 2018-19, he posted averages of 24.8 points, 11.2 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 2.2 blocks in 35.3 minutes per contest.

Following the 2018-19 campaign, Diane became the first-ever Big West player to win the conference’s Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Newcomer of the Year awards all in the same season. That year, he led the nation in field goals made (340) and was the only player in the country to average more than 24 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks per contest. Diane also earned 2018-19 AP All-American Honorable Mention recognition and was named to the All-Big West First Team. He repeated as Big West Player of the Year following the 2019-20 season and was again named to the All-Big West First Team.”

The Exhibit 10 is a one-year deal guaranteeing a training camp invite. If waived, E10 players get bonuses if they sign with the team’s G League affiliate.

Derrick Walton, Jr

Backup point guard who had a cup of coffee with the Heat, Clippers, and Pistons and has played in the G League as well. He played overseas during the 2018-2019 season in Lithuania and Germany and played 127 games for the Michigan Wolverines before finding his way to the NBA in 2017 as an undrafted free agent.

Tyrese Maxey, Isaiah Joe, Paul Reed

The draft picks. We profiled these guys on draft night.

Dakota Mathias

He’ll be here on a two-way contract.

From the Sixers:

“Mathias spent last season with the Texas Legends, the NBA G League affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks. In 42 G League games (all starts), Mathias tallied 18.1 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 36.1 minutes per game. He connected on 147 total three-pointers, which ranked second in the G League last season, while shooting .395 from beyond the arc and attempting nearly nine threes per contest. To begin his professional career, Mathias competed for the Cleveland Cavaliers at the 2018 NBA Summer League before signing with Divina Seguros Joventut in Spain’s top league, Liga ACB.”
