Did not expect Saturday to big a day for Eagles news, but here we are.

After Tom Pelissero reported that defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz will not be returning in 2021, ESPN’s Adam Schefter is now saying that Doug Pederson will return to the Birds next year.

Schefty:

“Coach Doug Pederson is expected to return to the Philadelphia Eagles next season, although he does have a meeting scheduled for Tuesday with owner Jeffrey Lurie to discuss plans for the 2021 season, sources told ESPN’s Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter on Saturday.

There has been speculation in recent weeks that Pederson’s job could be in jeopardy for the 2021 season. Lurie was said to be unhappy with the team’s results, sources told ESPN, but the Eagles have been more competitive down the stretch, with rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts igniting a spark.”

This one is not necessarily a surprise. Just last week Pederson said he was “fully confident” that he’d return as head coach in 2021.

The question now is if Howie Roseman is safe. If Jeffrey Lurie keeps his general manager, then it means the only meaningful change will be at defensive coordinator. That might be disappointing for the portion of the Eagles fan base that feels like somebody should be held accountable (via firing) for this dud of a football season.
