Betting The Super Bowl Coin Toss

While some scoff at the total lack of skill involved in blindly picking a 50/50 outcome, winning bets provide bettors with an opportunity to walk away with an immediate score or reinvest the winnings in another Super Bowl betting market. You know, more time to pump the money back into the mix. Give me more action. Continuous action. All of the action.

Some might say that betting on the coin toss is ridiculous, but isn’t there something charming about being the person, perhaps the only person, that jumps around the room as that coin makes its fateful fall? Well, if you’re looking to bet on the Super Bowl coin toss before the Bucs and Chiefs square off, you’re in luck — because I am that person.

It’s true. I have spent hours of my life (really) researching the major trends and information related to all things Super Bowl coin toss. I did this all in an effort to help you (and myself) dominate this year’s flip.

And, if things don’t work out? Well, there remains plenty of time to chase the loss.

How to Bet the Super Bowl Coin Toss

There are a few different ways that legal online sportsbooks allow bettors to wager on the coin toss outcome. Some popular markets include:

  • Heads or Tails
  • Team to win the coin toss
  • Player to correctly call the outcome of the coin toss
  • Team to win the coin toss and win the game

Of course, betting on such outcomes is, quite literally, a 50/50 proposition. Still, there a variety of trends available that may persuade how you wish to approach betting on it.

Meanwhile, not every state where sports betting is live offers action on the toss. Here are the ones that do:

Betting Trends

Let’s take a look at some of the need-to-know betting trends for this popular Super Bowl 55 prop.

  • Historically speaking, tails has the advantage. In 54 Super Bowls, tails has won 29 times (53.7%).
  • Dating back to Super Bowl 48, tails has been on a run, turning up as the winning side in six of the last seven years.
  • Kansas City has never won a Super Bowl coin toss, going 0-3 in its previous three appearances. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay won its lone coin toss (tails) prior to Super Bowl 37.
  • The NFC won the coin toss 14 straight seasons spanning from 1998-2001, helping give the conference a shocking 37-17 all-time coin toss record.

One other thing. There’s absolutely no correlation between winning the coin toss and winning the Super Bowl. In fact, the last team to win both the toss and the game was the Seahawks at Super Bowl 48. The current six-year run in which the coin toss winner has gone on to lose the game is the longest in Super Bowl history.

Historically, the coin toss winner has been the game winner in just 24 of 54 games.

Coin Toss Prediction

Listen, tails has been on a great run, but I’m the type of guy that fears chasing a run. I’m all over heads this year.
