Here’s another J.T. Realmuto story. Two in a row.

We haven’t quite reached Bryce Harper levels of media reporting about the free agent catcher, though things are starting to heat up a bit, with more rumors and tidbits floating around out there.

Interestingly enough, at MLB.com, there’s a hot stove story asking a number of contributors where they feel the top free agents will end up this season. Under J.T. Realmuto’s entry, all six people queried believe he’s going back to the Phils.

Here’s a portion of the story:

Mark Feinsand (@Feinsand, executive reporter):Phillies — A return to Philadelphia has always felt like the inevitable ending for Realmuto’s free agency, and the hiring of Dave Dombrowski to run the team’s baseball operations did nothing to change my mind. Once the Mets signed James McCann, this felt like the most sensible landing spot for Realmuto.

Andrew Simon (@AndrewSimonMLB, research analyst):Phillies — I’m still somewhat surprised that the Mets pounced on McCann rather than wait out Realmuto, but that removed a primary option. The Angels signing Kurt Suzuki probably removed another. Now, momentum seems to be building for a Philly return, but the reality is that the club can’t stop there if it wants to contend.

Matt Kelly (@MattKellyMLB, reporter): Phillies

Sarah Langs (@SlangsOnSports, reporter):Phillies

Manny Randhawa (@MannyOnMLB, reporter): Phillies

Paul Casella (@Paul_CasellaMLB, reporter):Phillies

Seems like a positive sign.

In the Phillies’ case, we knew they were going to have to wait this out and see what the market presented to Realmuto. When McCann went to the Mets, it helped their cause. Same thing with Suzuki going to the Angels and the Yankees and Blue Jays spending on DJ LeMahieu and George Springer.

I don’t know if that sours the feeling at all, the idea that the Phils are back in on J.T. only because he didn’t find what he was looking for elsewhere. Maybe he’s disappointed by his free agency foray.

Regardless, if Realmuto is a Phillie in 2021, this is a better team. We all know that. It might be a roundabout way of getting there, but the end result ultimately would be what the organization and fans always wanted.

Also, Digi Gregorius is listed in this article as well, and five of the six contributors think he’s going back to Philly. That would be quite the nice surprise, if Gregorius and Realmuto both came back.
