It’s the second leg of a back-to-back series between the Buffalo Sabres and the Philadelphia Flyers tonight at Wells Fargo Center.

Let’s take a look at this Eastern Division showdown from a betting perspective in our Sabres vs. Flyers betting preview with odds, picks and predictions.

Sabres vs. Flyers Betting Preview

Things got out of hand quickly in last’s night contest for the Flyers, with the Sabres blowing them out by a 6-1 margin. Buffalo dominated in 5-on-5 play, finishing checks and creating countless scoring chances, thanks in part to forwards Sam Reinhart and Curtis Lazar, with the latter opening up the scoring in the first period. He added a second tally late in the second, which was the goal that prompted the Flyers to pull starting goalie Carter Hart in favor of Brian Elliott.

Hart struggled in the contest, getting caught out of position on a pair of goals and even taking a two-minute penalty for tripping, which led to Buffalo’s only power-play score of the night. Sabres goalie Carter Hutton started on short notice after a personal issue sidelined Linus Ullmark for this game, and the 35-year old veteran was tremendous in net, making 21 saves and only allowing one goal that came very late in the contest when the Flyers took advantage of a bad turnover and winger Nicolas Aube-Kubel broke the shutout.

Elliott will remain in net for Philly. Meanwhile, Ullmark did make the morning skate for the Sabres and could start this evening, but no confirmation has been made from head coach Ralph Krueger as of press time.

Bets We Like With a Sabres Win

Curtis Lazar to Score a Goal Anytime (+600 BetMGM)

After picking up a pair of goals 24 hours ago, the 25-year old British Columbia native offers some great value to end up on the scoresheet once again this evening at +600. Lazar is a fourth-line forward not known for scoring (22 career goals in 176 games over seven seasons) but with his speedy line mate Jeff Skinner, this could one of the more underrated bottom-line units in the Eastern Division, if not the entire league. Look for Lazar to keep his hot hand going tonight.

Bets We Like With a Flyers Win

Claude Giroux to Score a Goal Anytime (+225 BetMGM)

The 33-year old veteran has three assists so far this season, but no goals entering this contest. With the absence of sniper Sean Couturier, Giroux needs to step up and lead the charge offensively for Philly. In 39 contests against Buffalo over his illustrious 14-year career, Giroux has 10 goals and 29 assists. Look for the former All-Star to get on the board this evening.

Philadelphia Flyers First Period Puck-Line (-0.5 +145 DraftKings Sportsbook)

The Flyers have to dictate the pace and tempo of this contest right from the opening puck drop in order to get revenge on this Sabres squad. We’ve seen them play with solid speed and energy in both of the wins over Pittsburgh to start the year. And even with starters like Sean Couturier and Shayne Ghostisbehere out, this Philly club has enough talent to hang around with a mid-range Buffalo team on the second night of a back-to-back.

Full Game OVER 6 Goals (-115 BetMGM)

Many people anticipated a high scoring affair in last night’s game, but not exactly in the one-sided fashion to which it commenced. Tonight, I expect to see a more balanced affair between these squads. The over has cashed in 7 of the last 10 meetings between the Sabres and Flyers, look for them to add to that counter in this showdown.

Sabres vs. Flyers Prediction

Philadelphia will no doubt have revenge on its mind after such a lopsided defeat from last night, and I predict we will see more focus and attention to detail, especially during 5-on-5 action this time around. Look for the Flyers to get even with the Sabres in a tight 4-3 win.
