On Saturday night, the Sixers and Grizzlies meet for the first time this season.

Let’s get into our Sixers-Grizzlies betting preview, including odds, boosts, and picks.

Preview

After a string of games that saw the Sixers play shorthanded as they waited for a number of players clear the NBA’s COVID-19 protocol, the Sixers will be back in action on Saturday night missing only one starter, Seth Curry, and one bench player, Vincent Poirier due to health and safety protocols.

That isn’t to say the Sixers will be at full-health. Franchise center Joel Embiid is out with right knee soreness. Rotation players Furkan Korkmaz and Mike Scott are out with a left abductor strain and right knee swelling, respectively.

Memphis had not released an injury update as of 3:30PM ET.

Rookie Ja Morant, who was listed as questionable for Friday’s postponed game against Minnesota, could make his return to the Grizzlies’ lineup for the first time since December 28. He’s missed eight games for Memphis thus far, with his team going 4-4 including a 3-0 stretch in their past three games.

Philadelphia has won two games in a row after dropping three consecutive games to Brooklyn without Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, Denver when the Sixers had seven available players, and Atlanta when the Sixers had a similarly short bench.

Bets We Like With a Sixers Win

FiveThirtyEight gives the Sixers a 46% chance of winning with a +1 point line. Philadelphia’s implied win probability based on the moneyline is 47%. One has to think the absence of Joel Embiid is the likely reason a 5-6 Grizzlies team is favored over the 9-4 Sixers.

Sixers to Win and Over 221 Points (+265, DraftKings)

The spread for this matchup opened with the Sixers as a -3 road favorite. The line dipped to a Sixers -0.5 spread for a bit, then alternated with a Grizzlies -0.5 spread until settling at Grizzlies -1.5.

A lot of this one comes down to the health and availability of Ja Morant. Memphis is still without Justise Winslow, who injured his hip in July and Jaren Jackson Jr., who suffered a torn meniscus in August. If Morant doesn’t play, Memphis doesn’t enough scoring talent to keep up with the Sixers, even the Sixers without Embiid.

While the teams have seen the under hit in 14 of 24 games combined, Philadelphia is riding a streak of high-scoring affairs in which the over has hit in four of five games. The Grizzlies have done the same in two of their past three games as well.

Sixers, Raptors, and Heat All to Win (+333, FOX Bet)

This bet features the underdog Sixers, and two favorites in their respective games the Toronto Raptors and Miami Heat. While we expect the Sixers to pull off a close road win, the Toronto and Miami games should be even sounder bets.

Toronto has been installed as a seven-point home favorite over the Charlotte Hornets. Toronto won the first game of their two-game series against the Hornets on Thursday night 111-108.

Miami is coming off back-to-back losses against the Philadelphia 76ers, but are a five-point favorite over the 2-9 Detroit Pistons. Miami could get back as many as six of their eight players who had previously been out due to health and safety protocols.

Note: A maximum bet of $100 would pay out $433.33 if the market hits.

Sixers and Raptors Both to Win (+175, BetMGM)

If you like the logic of the Sixers and Raptors to win as outlined above, but want to remove the Miami Heat due to questions around player availability, you can parlay Philadelphia and Toronto both to win at +175 odds at Bet MGM.

Ben Simmons to Record a Double-Double and Sixers to Win (+225, FOX Bet)

Ben Simmons has been on a double-double tear, recording three in his last four games and six over his past eight games. The Sixers point guard is a threat to record a double-double from any combination of points, assists, and rebounds. Without Joel Embiid in the paint, it stands to reason Simmons may find himself setting up more in the dunker spot, good for finishing close to the rim and collecting rebounds.

In one game against the Grizzlies a season ago, Simmons dropped 22 points and dished out 10 assists. This could be a good way to add some value to your Sixers moneyline bet.

Sixers vs. Grizzlies Prediction

Pick: So much of this one comes down to the health of Ja Morant. The oddsmakers and projection models think this will be a tight game, as do we. However, we’re going to go against both taking the Sixers and Ben Simmons to Record a Double-Double.
