We knew for a while now that Eagles’ LB coach Ken Flajole was moving on. Now Nick Sirianni has reportedly hired his replacement.

From Mike Kaye at NJ.com:

The Eagles hired former Minnesota Vikings assistant linebackers coach Nick Rallis as their new linebackers coach, a person with knowledge of the staff search told NJ Advance Media on Monday.

Rallis will replace Ken Flajole, who worked under former head coach Doug Pederson throughout his five-year run in Philadelphia.

Nick Rallis, eh? He’s 27 years old, which seems crazy young for a NFL position coach. That’s pretty much the median age for the Eagles roster.

He spent three years with the Vikings’ organization and this is what his website bio says:

Nick Rallis enters his 4th season of coaching and 3rd as the Vikings defensive quality control coach in 2020. During his time with the Vikings, Rallis has fulfilled day-to-day operations for the defensive staff and assisted Co-Defensive Coordinator/LBs coach Adam Zimmer.

With Rallis’ assistance, LB Eric Kendricks turned in a career year in 2019, earning AP First Team All-Pro honors and receiving his 1st career Pro Bowl bid after leading the Vikings in tackles for the 5th consecutive season and recording 12 passes defensed, tied for most among NFL LBs in 2019. Pro Football Focus tabbed Kendricks as the NFL’s highest-graded LB in 2019, boasting a score of 90.5. Rallis also aided in the growth of 3rd-year undrafted LB Eric Wilson, who recorded career-highs in starts (6), total tackles (57), TFLs (6) and sacks (3.0) in 2019.

Rallis played at Minnesota from 2012 to 2016. The Golden Gophers weren’t world beaters back then, but they went 9-4 during Rallis’ senior year and beat Wazzou in a bowl game, which is a nice way to go out. He had two forced fumbles, a sack, and 6.5 tackles for loss in nine games that year.

Let’s hope Rallis knows what he’s doing, because he’s got Alex Singleton and not much else at linebacker right now. It’s an incredibly young group of guys who basically maxed out as special teams contributors this season. The Eagles have historically not valued the linebacker position, so we’ll see if Howie Roseman gives him anything to work with in 2021.
