Sports media news.

The fine folks over at Barrett Sports Media ran an industry poll to determine the top 20 “Major Market” sports radio program diectors, and 94 WIP’s Spike Eskin finished at the very top, #1 overall.

Heres’ the blurb from the BSM website:

The top honor this year goes to Spike Eskin of Sports Radio WIP in Philadelphia. Under Spike’s leadership, WIP has consistently created impact in Philadelphia, earning recognition as one of the sports format’s best brands. He won this category by eight (8) points, holding off the man many recognize as the GOAT of sports radio programmers, Mark Chernoff. BSM congratulates Spike and his entire team on a well deserved honor, as well as all of the other PD’s who earned a spot on this year’s list.

Chernoff is the guy who runs WFAN in New York, so beating him out is a pretty nice honor from Spike’s peers. Barrett Sports Media had 31 programmers eligible for voting and the their “executive panel” consists of PDs and corporate suits from companies like iHeart, Cumulus, Entercom, ESPN, Fox, and SiriusXM. Voters were asked to consider “station success, multi-platform excellence, industry respect, and creative ideas.”

No doubt 94 WIP is a juggernaut in this market. You may or may not be a fan, but the fact of the matter is that they continue to hammer the opposition with regularity. They have the radio contracts for the Eagles and Phillies. They have the best show on either station right now (Glen Macnow and Ray Didinger on the weekends). WIP is a well-oiled machine and it’s obvious that the voters who took part in this BSM poll feel the same way.

Congrats to Spike on the well-deserved honor. Now let’s get it back to Carson Wentz talk. Should the Eagles trade him?
