On Wednesday night, the Sixers and Hornets meet for the first time in nearly a month. The Sixers (15-6) are the top team in the Eastern Conference, while their hosts, the Charlotte Hornets (10-11) find themselves one game up on the Toronto Raptors for the eighth seed in the East.

Let’s get into our Sixers-Hornets betting preview, including odds, boosts, and picks.

Preview

The Sixers and Hornets have already met twice this season, with both games going in Philadelphia’s favor. The Sixers were fueled by a triple-double effort from Ben Simmons in the first game, while Tobias Harris led the way wit ha 22-point effort in the rematch. The second matchup also saw seven Sixers finish in double figures, including a combined 21 points from the backup backcourt of Shake Milton and rookie guard Tyrese Maxey.

The Hornets’ Terry Rozier had his way with the Sixers in the first matchup between the team, dropping 35 points on Philadelphia. The Sixers adjusted and held Rozier in check in the rematch, which saw Charlotte finish with just 101 points.

Sixers to Win and Under 223.5 Points (+245, DraftKings)

The Sixers love seeing the Charlotte Hornets on the schedule. They’ve won 13 consecutive games against Charlotte dating back to the 2016-17 season. A season ago, the teams combined for 210 points in a November 10 meeting. This season, the teams followed up a 127-112 (239 total points) effort with a 118-101 (219 total points) blowout.

The Hornets are riding high coming off three straight wins over the Pacers and Bucks at home, as well as an overtime victory in Miami on Monday. Charlotte was fueled in that one by an unconscious Malik Monk, whose 36 points led the way for the Hornets.

If Terry Rozier, who is listed as questionable, misses this game, expect it to be a lower-scoring affair in line with the second meeting between the teams earlier this season. Without Rozier, Charlotte’s offensive options are limited, which could set the stage for Philadelphia to lock all windows and doors.

It’s worth noting that Philadelphia has seen the final score go under 224.5 points in four of their last five games and under 223.5 points in three of their last four. Expect this one to do the same, though it could be worth your while to tease the total up to 224.5 or 225.5 points.

Sixers, Bucks, and Hawks All to Win (+260, BetMGM)

BetMGM has an interesting three-team parlay worth a look, especially if you’re looking for more value than on a Sixers moneyline bet alone. We believe the Sixers will win for the reasons outlined above, so let’s take a look at the other two games in this three-team parlay.

The 12-8 Milwaukee Bucks are the third seed in the Eastern Conference. They’re coming off a 134-106 blowout win over the Portland Trail Blazers, which represented their third win in five games. They’ve been installed as a -8.5 point favorite over the Indiana Pacers. Indiana was held in check in the fourth quarter against the Philadelphia 76ers, whose 2-3 zone stifled what had been an effective offense through three quarters. The Pacers rebounded in a big way with a 134-116 win over the visiting Grizzlies. The issue they’re going to face is that they’re on the road for the second half of a back-to-back, while Milwaukee will have an extra day’s rest.

The parlay really rests on the Atlanta game. The Hawks have lost two of their last three games, including home losses to the Lakers and Nets, two legitimate NBA title contenders. When Atlanta has played against teams closer to their level, they’ve found success. Atlanta isn’t that far removed from a 4-1 stretch with wins over Minnesota, Detroit, and the LA Clippers. They’ll be hosting the disappointing Dallas Mavericks, who have lost six straight games, including losses to the Rockets, Nuggets, Jazz and Suns, losing two games apiece to the latter two.

If you’re looking for a three-team parlay worth taking a flier on, it’s this one.

Bets We Like Independent of Outcome

Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris to Combine for Over 49.5 Points (+135, FOX Bet)

Joel Embiid has played like a man possessed over his last five games, dropping 37 points against the Timberwolves, 28 against the Lakers, 33 against the Pistons, to go with 38 and 42 point efforts against the Boston Celtics. He’s not going to get to 50 points on his own, but Tobias Harris should be able to help finish this one off. Harris has contributed at least 24 points in three of his last four games and has finished with at least 21 points in six of his last eight games.

The Sixers will need big performances from Embiid and Harris to come away with a road win.

Ben Simmons to Record a Double-Double (+130, FOX Bet)

Although FOX Bet has a market on the board for Ben Simmons to record a triple-double at +800, we’d advise going for the lower multiplier by taking Ben Simmons to record a double-double at +130. The Sixers point guard averaged 13.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.4 assists per game in the month of January.

Simmons is always a triple-double threat, often finishing games with at or near double-digits in assists and/or rebounds. He’s hit the double-digit scoring threshold in all but two games this season.

In two previous meetings against the Hornets this season, Simmons averaged 13.5 pints, 11 rebounds, and 8.5 assists per game. As for the outside shot at a triple-double, keep in mind he accomplished the feat in the teams’ first matchup this season in a 15 point, 12 rebound, 11 assist effort.

Sixers vs. Hornets Prediction

Pick: While the discrepancy between the oddsmakers and projection models is staggering in terms of points, we believe this game has all the elements of a Sixers win. Take the Sixers to Win. Also consider the Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris to Score Over 49.5 points prop.
