On Thursday night, the Philadelphia 76ers will play host to the Dallas Mavericks. The Sixers are still clinging to a half game lead on the top seed in the Eastern Conference at 21-11 with the Brooklyn Nets on their heels at 21-12. The Mavericks are 15-15 on the season, which places them a game behind the Golden State Warriors for the eighth and final playoff seed in the Western Conference.

Let’s get into our Sixers-Mavericks betting preview, including odds, boosts, and picks.

Sixers vs. Mavericks Betting Pick (February 25, 2021)

The Philadelphia 76ers are coming off a 109-102 victory over a Toronto Raptors team that had defeated them just two nights earlier. They saw a bit of an uptick in production from their bench on Sunday night, with Furkan Korkmaz and Shake Milton combining for 30 points and eight rebounds. However, this team rolls with franchise center Joel Embiid, fellow All-Star Ben Simmons, and All-Star snub Tobias Harris. Embiid failed to score at least 25 points for the first time after 14 straight games of hitting that mark. Tobias Harris stepped up in his stead, contributing 23 points, while Simmons flirted with a triple-double to secure the win.

The Dallas Mavericks are riding high coming off a 110-107 win over the Boston Celtics. Superstar point guard Luka Doncic came up huge down the stretch, hitting a go-ahead three to put Dallas up by two points, then a dagger step-back three with 0.1 seconds remaining to seal the victory. The Mavericks are on a two-game winning streak and will look to get a three-game road trip against the Eastern Conference off to a good start in this one. Unfortunately, it appears they’ll have to do so without Kristaps Porzingis, who’s listed as doubtful.

FiveThirtyEight gives the Sixers a 68% chance of winning with a -4.5 point line. Philadelphia’s implied win probability based on the moneyline is 63%.

Sixers to Win and Under 229 Total Points (+188, DraftKings)

Until the Sixers go on a dreadful run of losses at home, we’re going to roll with a trend that’s been undeniable: Philadelphia is nearly unbeatable at home. The Sixers are 28-2 in their last 30 games at Wells Fargo Center.

As for the under, both teams are capable of posting a high final score, but neither team has been part of a barnburner in a number of games. Philadelphia has seen the under hit in each of their last three games, while Dallas has seen the same thing happen over their last two games.

Although Dallas has won three straight games dating back to the 2018-19 season, the likely absence of Kristaps Porzingis could loom large as Dallas struggles to contain Joel Embiid inside the paint.

Joel Embiid Over 29.5 Points and Sixers to Win (+140, FOX Bet)

Joel Embiid has been on a tear in home games recently, putting up at least 33 points per game in five of his last six games in Philadelphia. There’s no doubt that Embiid has struggled from the field over his last two games to the tune of 9-33 from the field, but he’s set for a bounce back game against a team that simply doesn’t have the interior defenders needed to keep Embiid in check. Plus, in the only game Embiid played against Dallas a season ago, he went off for 33 points and pulled down 17 rebounds. This could be a massive scoring game from the Sixers franchise center.

Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris to Combine For Over 54.5 Points (+125, FOX Bet)

Over the last seven games that Philadelphia’s top two scorers Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris have played together, they’ve combined for at least 52 points in all of them:

  • v. Chicago: Embiid 50, Harris 22 (77 points)
  • v. Houston: Embiid 31, Harris 24 (55 points)
  • v. Brooklyn: Embiid 33, Harris 21 (54 points)
  • v. Portland: Embiid 37, Harris 17 (54 points)
  • v. LA Lakers: Embiid 28, Harris 24 (52 points)
  • v. Boston: Embiid 38, Harris 23 (61 points)
  • v. Boston: Embiid 42, Harris 22 (64 points)

Getting to 55 combined points isn’t inconceivable, especially considering their offensive output in the last two home games against Chicago and Houston. Keep in mind that not only has Joel Embiid averaged 32.3 points per game in the month of February, but Tobias Harris has averaged 23.6 points per game over his last five games.

Joel Embiid to Score 30+ Points (+105, BetMGM)

The folks over at BetMGM have boosted Joel Embiid to score 30+ points from -125 odds to +105 odds. We’ve already outline our reasons to believe Embiid will rediscover his shooting touch from the field, but there’s another trend that’s going in his favor as of late. Embiid has attempted double-digit free throws in each of his last eight games and 14 of his last 15 games overall. He’s converting those attempts at an 87.8% clip in February and 85.5% of attempts from the charity stripe on the season. If you believe he’ll have a big game and want to get in on it independent of outcome, this bet could be worth a look.
